Rainy Night In Kanda

Kanda at night, in the rain. The old Tokyo neighbourhood east of Akihabara takes on a different character once the shutters close and the streets empty — reflections multiply across wet asphalt, neon bleeds into puddles, and the ordinary becomes quietly strange.

Mike Leonard photographed this scene during one of his regular evening walks through central Tokyo. The image captures that specific quality of Japanese urban rain: the way artificial light is amplified, softened, and scattered all at once across the pavement.
